The US Ski Team Shout-out to JN2013 Fairbanks!
Welcome to the 2013 USSA Marriott Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships in Fairbanks, presented by ConocoPhillips. It is our goal to organize and conduct an outstanding event that will prove enjoyable and rewarding for all athletes, coaches, spectators, volunteers and officials.
Our Organizing Committee (OC) headed by President Jim Gillis, and our Competition Committee (CC), headed by Chief of Competition John Estle, have been working already for many months to achieve our goal.
We hope you enjoy a great week of events here in Fairbanks, the Golden Heart of Alaska. For many who live in Fairbanks, March is a favorite month!
To all of you who ordered JN 2013 merchandise: we are still awaiting arrival of the materials we had to re-order. We will start shipping materials upon their arrival in Fairbanks. We still have all records of sales for mail-order, but simply don't yet have anything to ship. Thanks for your patience.
Bert Boyer of Fairbanks did an amazing job of capturing and sharing nearly 3800 photographs of the action at all of the Junior National Races. Mark Nadell of Far West Nordic has also shared his great photos of Junior National races. Both photographers' galleries are linked from the "Photo Galleries" feature on the right side of the front page. Photos are available for purchase for a small fee. Both Bert and Mark have generously offered to donate all proceeds from the online sales of their photos to the National Nordic Foundation (NNF), which supports the athlete development pipeline of US Cross Country and Nordic Combined skiing. FAIRBANKS, AK -- Several awards were given out during the Closing Ceremonies of the 2013 Cross Country Junior Nationals. Alaska won the Alaska Cup and, not surprisingly, many of the team awards went to Alaskan teams.
Alaska won the Alaska Cup after a four-year drought. New England, which has won the cup the last four years, came in second and Midwest third. For a complete listing of the Alaska Cup results and point totals see this page.
The following awards were also given out at the Closing Ceremony:

FAIRBANKS, AK -- The 2013 Cross Country Junior Nationals drew young racers from across the nation to Fairbanks. And many of those kids drew parents, non-racing siblings, and even grandparents along with them.
While no official statistics are kept on the relatives who travel to watch the racers, event officials estimate that more than 100 are attending these Junior Nationals.
Those relatives spent part of their time cheering on the racers, but that still leaves a lot of time to do other things. They have been taking advantage of their time in Fairbanks by seeing more of what the city and surrounding area has to offer, including Chena Hot Springs, the World Ice Art sculptures, and the University of Alaska Museum, and dog sled races.

If you are at the Birch Hill venue, live results will be available on your smartphone, so you can be on top of the action while you watch. You will also be able to see real-time results on your tablet, laptop or desktop computer. Click on the "Results" link above and then go to the race you're looking for.
If we are able to get some fiber-optic connections made we plan to live-stream video from at least one camera at Birch Hill. If we have enough bandwidth, we will have two cameras streaming video during the competition. We'll place obvious links on this page so you can make that connection.
During the Junior Nationals we plan to publish event coverage content and action photos throughout the day on competition days, and will be posting more content and photos in the evening after competition. Click on the appropriate links to view photos.
